Back in the glory years of Six Day Racing, when velodrome events were bigger than Super Bowls, athletes more popular than today’s music stars, and money flowed like no other American spectacle; a certain type of bike stand became known as a “Six Day Stand.”
This modest device lifts up the left chain stay while gently holding the adjoining seat stay for stability. Ubiquitous at events, we see too little of this clever prop. How many classy (or aspiring) bicycles lean awkwardly against walls, furniture, and each other? How undignified to hang unrealistically from the ceiling. All you need is a “Six Day Stand” to effectively and attractively display and store your bike until the next outing.
With this in mind, Jon Hjertberg re-invented this classic in a free form wood laminated sculpture. Behold the Wheel Fanatyk Wood Bike Stand. Jon hand builds each one. The bamboo model is made of cross-laminated panel, fantastically strong with exotic beauty.
The stands are finished with a marine teak oil blend for lasting beauty. Our bamboo is FSC-Certified, and qualifies for LEED® Credit MR6 (Rapidly Renewable Material) and LEED® Credit IEQ 4.4 (Low-Emitting Systems). While not perfect, it is:
- A rapidly renewable resource with harvest cycle of 4 to 5 years.
- Grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.
- Made without added urea-formaldehyde and meets the E0 and 2012 California CARB standards for indoor air quality.
Mostly, the stand is strong, effective, complements your bike’s beauty, and enhances any interior.
