A great deal in a truing stand is hard to find. We bought these for a cycle school that didn’t materialize—so these stands now need homes. Minoura is a great and storied name in tools, trainers, and accessories, all of it well designed and sturdily made. Their latest truing stand platform FT-50 was introduced one year ago (2019)
It caught my eye because it uses a solid steel disk for a base (heavy, strong, inexpensive) and extruded aluminum uprights (rigid, attractive, inexpensive). The caliper arm and extensions are CNC aluminum. The resulting tool is unique and practical. The have an MSRP of USD$149 but these 10 are at a special discount.
Each stand has seen several hours of use but in no case is that detectable. I’ve removed two huge Minoura stickers—a nice graphic but cheaply executed. The bare satin aluminum is most attractive. A final touch was substituting wing nuts for the two knurled knobs to secure hub holders. Minoura’s knobs are impossible to tighten enough. No surprise that the next edition up (FT-50 W) offers that small upgrade.
