In 2011 I enjoyed building two wheels with vintage Prior hubs and wood rims. They were destined for a 1930’s Australian Speedwell track bike undergoing restoration by Bobby Landry in Colorado. This week I saw the finished product and it’s worth the wait!
Very similar machine to Dunc Gray’s ridden to Australia’s first cycling Gold at the 1932 Los Angeles Games. Now Sydney’s Velodrome is named for him and his medal winning bike is on display.
Why build wheels? You’re bound to feel a bit immortal when your work becomes part of such a timeless icon as this Speedwell. Thanks, Bobby!
